Book Review: The Meaning of Marriage
Book Review: The Meaning of Marriage by Tim and Kathy Keller
If you have ever read one of Tim Keller's books, you know he rarely treads gently. And that, ladies and gents, is why this book is a recommendation! My spouse and I have been married for twelve years and we still need a good, swift kick in the denim some days. Between work rhythms, raising our precious children, participating in school activities and everything between all it, we often lose sight of one another. Our LifeGroup went through this book a few years back and I have recommended it to singles and couples alike ever since.
Many of us believe that our lives are missional. What we say and do matters in our workplace, in our friend groups or within other social settings. We schedule time for exercise and create organizational systems in our homes because there's care and concern there. We set aside a word for the year and build goals around that word. And yet, how often is the mission of marriage left to the wayside. We'll get there someday. Well, if only we ______________ and had ______________, then ______________. Our marriage will be my priority when ________________ is done or when she ______________________ or when he ____________________. Fill these in. We all have those blanks answered in our heads. The excuses will always be there, but so will the truth that our marriages are missional. Which one will you choose to live by? Day in and day out, whether in joy or tragedy. Keller doesn't shy away from this concept. He presents it boldly with challenge and Biblical truth. Oh my goodness. I cannot recommend this book enough! And how timely as we enter love month (which I definitely said in my best but not great Stevie Wonder way as it was typed). Also, if you have not registered for the upcoming Married on Purpose event, please do ... here Shameless plug.
